Ongoing projects and process

As I try to work predominantly found and reused materials, and an compulsive multi-tasker, I usually have a number of projects in some degree of development.

After inspiration and first notes. There follows preliminary studies. Either in parallel with this or at the next stage is collecting materials. As I collect fabrics the ideas ferment and germinate further. Sometimes a found piece of fabric can change the direction of a whole project. During this time I may be working on other projects or refining and experimenting with techniques to use in the project. As new fabrics arrive momentum behind projects grows. Eventually every project reaches a point where I am compelled to birth the finished pieces.

Although I can work to a schedule and deadlines I enjoy the freedom of letting some of the projects run at exactly the rate they want to - be it short sudden bursts completed over a few nights, or the longer pieces, up to ongoing projects which grow and evolve and spawn their own child projects over years.

Some Recent/Current/Planned Key projects are:

* A recent familly wedding in Umbria immersed Jo in the hills and plains, the wide expanses and distant views, combined with the small and regular, the gentle order of the predominantly organic farming of the region.
Currently working with Olive leaves she expects they may take form into inspired wall hanging, or accessories or clothing, but currently is exploring the linguistic associations of olive branches and peace.

* The psyche-garment sculptures using found garments and based around a specific set of councelling principles. The collection is currently expected to includes plays on words and poem pieces as well as physical representations of mental processes.

* Spider of Depression - a scary subject for some. The spider is a performance and textiles piece, calling on personal experience of depression and coaching/counselling studies. Its aim is to reflect the experience of being drawn into a depression and methods of escaping, and how the experience can leave us stronger and wiser as a result. Currently collecting black, charcoal or dark brown light or medium weight fabrics. Also white plain cotton/poly cotton (such as sheets) for cutting into strips.

* "In Your Dreams" is in development and Jo will be crowd sourcing some elements -
currently she is collecting nightdresses, if you would like to contribute please use the contact form.

* Her location in rural Devon provides constant inspiration from the natural and farmed world around her. Currently collecting cord and candlewick as well as any variations of rich green fabrics. Small florals also very welcome for upcoming project inspired by the unique and distinctive devon banks.

* Wedding dress of dreams - an ongoing project - currently collecting ivory, cream, beige, off white and white pieces of lace, broiderie anglaise, and crochet (or other similar beautiful luxurious fabrics - silk, devore, velvet, crepe de chine etc) (paleand muted peaches, pinks, greens and blues may also be very useful).

* The corvids: some pictures and images featuring the local rooks, crows and jackdaws have started to take form. Possibly stimulated in part by the local tame magpie getting in the art room and joining in.

I usually work with reused or found fabrics.

If you have unwanted fabric you would like to donate (from lacy curtains to corduroy chair throws) I may well be able to make good use of it.

It does not matter if a piece is damaged or stained in places as I will either incorporate or work around the damage.

I may be able to collect around mid-devon or arrange collection by a friend elsewhere.
